Popular Marches – Av. Liberdade

The Marchas Populares is a long-standing tradition in Lisbon, celebrated every year on the evening of June 12th.
About 20 different neighborhoods compete with each other, showcasing their best music, choreography, costumes, and lyrics judged by a special jury.
This night is also the scene of an enormous party and street festival, unique to Lisbon. This event draws thousands of people onto the streets and winds down early the next morning.
The Marchas Populares began in 1932 and are now ranked among the best European festivals.
