Procession of Saint Anthony

June 13 @ 08:00 17:00

The procession of Saint Anthony, a tradition since the 16th century, is a popular event in Lisbon.

It starts at the Igreja de Santo António and passes through the Alfama Quarter. What sets this procession apart is that it grows in size as it progresses, with saints from all the churches it passes joining in.

Although Saint Anthony is not the patron saint of Lisbon (Saint Vincent holds that title), he is beloved by the people of Lisbon. On June 13th, locals and tourists alike fill the streets to participate in the procession held in his honor.
