Still, the Great Lisbon Earthquake of 1755 caused significant destruction, and the bookstore had to be rebuilt.

It officially reopened in 1755 in a new location on Rua Garrett, where it stands today. Over the centuries, Livraria Bertrand has played a vital role in Lisbon’s literary and cultural scene.
