Head out to explore the 25th de Avril bridge, and you’ll discover the Santo Amaro Docks. It is a stretch of restaurants and bars and offers amazing views.

You can buy takeaway burgers and enjoy watching the birds and boats in the marina. If you plan to cycle to Belem, you pass these docks, making it a cheap pit stop.

8. Enjoy Pastel de Nata

But if you do not want to enjoy a meal, you can always try the ice cream at Santini, which is delicious; you must try the natural flavor. Another alternative is to head to Av. Fontes Pereira de Melo 8 A for another Lisbon Food Market.

Here, you can also find Portuguese food that is delicious and less crowded.

10. A Provinciana

For the best budget restaurant in Lisbon with an affordable menu of Portuguese food, visit A Provinciana. You can enjoy the day’s plate, Prato do dia. It is a family-run place and a hidden gem.

You find Américo and his daughter in charge of the front while Judite, the mom, runs the kitchen. Here, you can enjoy classic Portuguese food. On Mondays, it is chicken with blood rice, while on Tuesdays, you enjoy goat stew.

Wednesday is a bean and meat stew from Brazil, while Thursday is a traditional stew with vegetables and meat. If you are joining in for lunch, get there before 1 pm.

11. Rosa da Rua

You can easily eat on a budget in Lisbon at The Food Temple, which has the best vegetarian options. It is one of my favorite spots, and at the steer is Alice Ming.

She has a Chinese and Canadian heritage, bringing a mix of both Portuguese and Asian to the table.

I cannot recommend a specific dish as the menu keeps changing. I do recommend booking in advance as the place is small.

14. Restaurant Ze da Mouraria

When looking for the best budget restaurants in Lisbon to enjoy cheap eats, you can get big portions to share at Zé da Mouraria.

Remember that prices at Zé da Mouraria may seem deceivingly low, but rest assured that one portion is enough for at least two people, if not more. So don’t hesitate to bring a friend or two along!

This favored joint is found in Mouraria (Rua João do Outeiro, 24) and Campo Mártires da Pátria (Rua Gomes Freire, 60). The only distinction between them is that the former is only open for lunch, while the latter is open solely for dinner.

The menu changes daily, but there’s always a fine assortment of meat and fish dishes. If you’re having trouble deciding, you can’t go wrong with their pepper steak or the roasted codfish.

Don’t hesitate to ask for a takeaway container if there are leftovers. Regardless of which restaurant you opt for, arrive early to secure a table or make a reservation in advance.

15. As bifanas do Afonso

If you’re looking for quick and tasty food before heading up the slopes of Alfama or on the go, there’s a hidden gem in the neighborhood of Baixa that you should try.

The locals know it as the go-to spot for Bifanas, a famous Portuguese hamburger with sliced pork in a bun. Don’t miss out on the chance to make your meal more complete by adding a side of eggs, salad, soup, or fried fish.

Despite its prime location, this eatery offers some of the most affordable prices in town. Keep your eyes peeled to avoid missing out on this delicious, budget-friendly pit stop.

You can find it right beside Jardim Dom Luis Park.

17. Lupita Pizzeria Pizza Restaurant

The last time I visited Lisbon, I had the pleasure of trying out the pizzas at Lupita pizzeria, and I have to say that they are simply amazing for their price.

The Neapolitan pizzas are incredibly fluffy and delicious, and all of this for less than 10 Euros. Although their menu is limited to only six different pizzas and two desserts, they excel in preparing them to perfection.

The restaurant is relatively small, situated near Cais do Sodré, with only around 20 seats available, but it’s worth the visit. If you’re looking for a change of scenery, the Praca de Sao Paolo square is just a short walk away, where you can find a beautiful fountain.

Alternatively, if you’re in the mood for a stunning view, a 5-minute walk will take you to the Tejo River, where you can enjoy the peaceful surroundings, as I did during my last visit.

18. Eat as Much Pizza as You Like

If you are in a group of three or more friends looking for a great dining experience, head to Retrogusto Experience, near the Anjos metro station.

The Pizzaiolo there will take charge of selecting and serving you pizzas until you’re fully satisfied!
