The Lisbon Zoo, known as Jardim Zoológico de Lisboa, is located in Quinta da Beloura Park.

Dr. Jose Antonio de Almeida founded it in 1884 on the city’s outskirts. The inauguration took place in 1885. It is one of the largest zoos in Europe.

The founders established the zoo to promote the study of zoology and biology and raise awareness about the importance of protecting wildlife.

The Zoo hosts various animal species worldwide and participates in different conservation programs to help protect endangered species.

The Aquarium

Dolphin-Lisbon-Beach

Dolphins are among the most exotic animals at the Lisbon Zoo. The dolphin show occurs thrice daily: at 11 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.

They are in a small arena, and the show lasts 20 minutes. I recommend checking it out, as it is educational and entertaining.

You will learn a lot about marine animals and conservation.

Hot Tip🔥: To cool down after a great time with the kids, visit one of these water parks.

The Reptile House

Another captivating animal is the reptile, which is worth a visit. Here, you can find rare reptiles living in their intimate surroundings. Must-see attractions are the pythons, alligators, Egyptian tortoise, and the highlight of the day, the Komodo Dragon.

Children’s Farm

When visiting Lisbon Zoo with kids, the Children’s Farm is an essential attraction. Let your little explorers meet adorable baby animals, from lambs to miniature pigs to calves. Here, they can enjoy a hands-on experience with domestic animals.

The Cable Car

One of the best attractions at the Lisbon Zoo is the cable car, which is more like a theme park ride. The cable car travels around the zoo, and you sit in a small metal cage. The ride lasts 20 minutes and gives you great views of the animals and the park.

Note 🗒: On rainy or windy days, the cable car is out of service, but there are other things you can do with the kids in Lisbon if this happens.
