Miradouro da Graça Viewpoint in Lisbon (Traveler’s Take)

Miradouro da Graça Blue Sky

Graça is an area I’ve rediscovered in the last couple of months. It’s right in Alfama, and it has a beautiful viewpoint: Miradouro da Graça.

It’s the oldest part of Lisbon, and it has a flea market dating back to 1272. It’s especially these intriguing elements that have drawn my attention to Graça.

As you walk around the narrow cobblestoned streets, you really get a feeling of the city and its history, and then you arrive at Miradouro da Graça with a beautiful view of Lisbon.

Miradouro da Graça

Miradouro da Graça is a super popular viewpoint for both tourists and locals because you can get a drink or a snack at the café and enjoy the beautiful view.

Looking left, you’ll see the famous Castelo Sao Jorge; looking straight and right, you will see Alfama, the oldest and most historic part of Lisbon.

The official name of the viewpoint is Miradouro Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, and it’s famous for a poet who spent days here writing poems. You can get to experience one of her poems on the wall.

Today, there are often musicians, dancers, and local performers performing at the viewpoint that is often super cozy.

How to Get to Miradouro da Graça

You can either walk to the viewpoint, which I prefer because you get to see so much of the city, and if you’re in Alfama already, it’s always nearby. It takes around 18 minutes from the city center.

When you walk to the viewpoint, you walk through a small garden with a beautiful small fountain and a bronze sculpture.

Alternatively, you can take the famous Tram 28, which stops super close by.

Miradouro da Senhora do Monte

If you like viewpoints, there is another viewpoint just nearby: Miradouro da Senhora do Monte.

There is also a beautiful garden called Jardim da Cerca da Graça, which is the garden you walk through and can see from the viewpoint.

If you’re visiting the viewpoint on a Tuesday or Saturday, then stop by the nearby flea market, which is named Feira da Ladra, and it’s massive.

Lastly, the Graça church is nearby as well, which is a massive, beautiful church. It’s also known as the Church of Our Lady of Grace.

Wrap-Up

The Miradouro da Graça viewpoint is another beautiful viewpoint with pine trees and a beautiful view of the city and the Tagus River.

It’s located in Graça, a historic district in Lisbon, and you simply have to stop by if you’re nearby.

You could take a walking tour of Alfama, where you can see the castle and many viewpoints while still enjoying the cafés and local restaurants.

I think it’s such a beautiful sight of the city, and whether it’s night or day, you’ll get to see the city from the top; it’s stunning. I love visiting all the viewpoints around the city.
