Escape the ordinary and discover the charm of Costa da Caparica.
The stunning stretch of coastline, just a short distance from Lisbon, offers a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and authentic Portuguese charm.
Caparica has something to offer everyone, whether you’re seeking sun-soaked days on pristine beaches, exploring the vibrant nightlife, or indulging in delicious local cuisine.
If you’re wondering how to get there, I’ve written a step-by-step guide on how to get from Lisbon to Costa da Caparica, covering bus, ferry, Uber, and car options.
Costa da Caparica Coastline
The Costa da Caparica coastline stretches for 26 kilometers and features sandy beaches, huge Atlantic waves, and a lot of natural scenery.
Costa da Caparica is a modern yet lively resort town, and further down the coast, you reach Costa da Caparica Fonte Da Telha, a fishing village.
You find a beautiful lagoon, Lagoa de Albufeira, with expansive pristine beaches.
On the southern Costa da Caparica coastline, fossil-rich cliffs within the Arriba Fossil protect the shoreline from developments.
The Costa da Caparica coastline faces the Atlantic Ocean, stretching onto sandy beaches with decent waves ideal for surfing and kitesurfing.
During summer, Costa da Caparica buzzes with tourists and Portuguese flocking to the beaches. Late at night, beach â›± bars host parties.
Most tourists flock to the Cascais-Estoril coastline, but Costa da Caparica has loads to offer for an equally enjoyable day trip.
The Best of The Costa da Caparica Region
One thing about Costa da Caparica’s region is the sandy beaches, which stretch for miles to Praia do Meco beach.
Then there is Praia de São João beach in Costa da Caparica Fonte da Telha. In this town, fishermen still retain their fishing heritage.
So, if you want to experience traditional fishing, head to the Atlantic Fonte Da Telha.
Then you have a picturesque lagoon, Lagoa de Albufeira, surrounded by a pine forest, opening up to the beach, Fonte da Telha Lagoa de Albufeira.
Tip: Check out these great Lisbon beaches while here.
Costa da Caparica Town
You find the Costa da Caparica town on the coastline’s northern section. Here, you see apartment blocks with sprawling holiday homes and campsites extending along the coastline.
Over the years, Costa da Caparica has become modern, with a pleasant parking area along the seafront. There is a beachfront promenade with shopping areas. Along the Costa da Caparica beachfront, you see apartments and holiday rentals.
Many Portuguese own holiday homes here or visit for a day trip from Lisbon. You can find affordable restaurants, beach bars, and cafes in the town. During summer, you can enjoy a lively atmosphere.
Yet, compared to Cascais or Sesimbra, it lacks the Portuguese charm, and a day trip to the Costa da Caparica coastline is more for the sun, beach, and sea, especially surfing.
