What is it? For things to do in Lisbon, Praรงa do Comรฉrcio, or Commerce Square, is the main Lisbon square and a must-visit. It is the largest square in Europe and used to be the home of the Royal Palace, which was destroyed in the 18th-century earthquake.
Why visit? The squares are lined with cafes, government buildings, and restaurants. One standout feature is the statue of King Joseph I riding on a horse. At the back of the statue is the Arco Triunfal da Rua Augusta triumphal arch lined with Marques de Pompal and Vasco da Gama statues.
Once you move under the arch, you see the pedestrian street Rua Augusta, which has different shops and street performers.

8. Don Pedro IV Square
Where is it? Baixa Chiado
What is it? Praรงa Dom Pedro IV, better known as Rossio Square, is a tribute to the emperor of Brazil, and in the middle of the square, you see a statue of him.
Why visit? Rossio Square dates back to the 18th century and was a popular meeting place in the city center. I recommend you check out Cafe Nicola, but only visit it for the atmosphere and a drink.
Furthermore, you can find traditional shops where you can buy and taste Portuguese food and drinks.
Hot Tip ๐ฅ: Visit the Fantastic World of Portuguese Sardines if you want something different in souvenirs to take home. You can choose canned sardines with your birth year on them.
9. Elevador de Santa Justa
Where is it? Baixa Chiado – R. do Ouro, 1150-060 Lisboa, Portugal
What is it? The Elevador de Santa Justa, or Santa Justa Elevator, is an incredible ๐ attraction in Lisbon. The Elevador de Santa Justa was built in 1902 to link the lower part of town to Carmo Square in Bairro Alto.
Why visit? The Elevador de Santa Justa is open daily from 7 am to 10:45 pm; tickets cost about 5.5 EURO. The ticket includes a trip to the viewing platform and back down. The Santa Justa Lift is also one of the best kid-friendly places in Lisbon, as kids can travel for free.
Hot Tip ๐ฅ: The Elevador de Santa Justa always has long queues, so I recommend coming later in the evening, as it stays open until late.

10. Immersivus Gallery

Where is it? Belรฉm District – Praรงa das Amoreiras 10, 1250-020 Lisboa, Portugal
What is it? If you’re looking for things to do in Lisbon, visit this fantastic place. The Immersive Gallery is underground inside an old reservoir complex.
Why visit? If you want an educational attraction in Lisbon that is an art experience, this is where you need to be. The gallery opened in 2022, and since then, it has been rocking.
You step into a grand place to see art displayed with high-tech projections using holograms, making works like Claude Monet and Frida Kahlo come to life. While the exhibits are spectacular, it is more about the space.
View, the Mother of Water Mรฃe D’รgua Reservoir is an ornate 18th-century grid of chambers with water features marking the beginning point. The reservoir brought water right to the city center.
10. Lisbon Tram 28
Admission: โฌ3
Where is it? Alfama
What is it? Tram 28 is an iconic tram in Lisbon and one of the oldest. It has a yellow exterior with a wooden interior and is one of the must-do in Lisbon.
Why see it? Tram 28 is a great way to understand the city’s geography as you drive past different attractions in Lisbon, including Lisbon Cathedral, Castel de Sao Jorge, Miradouro das Portas do Sol, and Miradouro de Santa Luzia.
Still, the last time I visited, there were long queues at Tram 28. You can also join the Tram 28 ride with a walking tour by booking it with Get Your Guide.
Hot Tip ๐ฅ: As Tram 28 does get busy and to avoid crowds, we recommend starting at Campo Ourique, which is at the end of the root. Alternatively, you can ride Tram 12 and 25 to enjoy a similar experience, even if it is not Tram 28.
11. Day Trip to Sintra
Yes, Sintra is where you leap into the pages of fairytales. It is a wonderland and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Why visit: Sintra is where you can explore the Palรกcio Nacional da Pena or Pena Palace perched high up on the hill. You can wander around the Pena Palace Park and head to the Castelo do Mouros, known as the Moorish Castle.
The mysterious Quinta da Regaleira also has a gothic facade and underground passages. Lastly, visit the Monserrate Palace, which has Arab influences.

What is it? The Lisbon Oceanarium, built in 1998 in Nations Park, is one of the biggest aquariums worldwide.
Why visit? For kid-friendly places in Lisbon, the aquarium is a must-visit. It has five aisles representing different ecosystems globally. Here, you find over 500 species of sea creatures, from sharks to sea trotters.
Hot Tip ๐ฅ: As queues can get long, I recommend booking your tickets in advance, which are open daily. To reach it from the city center, take the red metro line.
13. Carmo Convent
Admission: โฌ5
Where is it? Baixa Chiado District – Largo do Carmo 27, 1200-092 Lisboa, Portugal
What is it? Near Santa Justa, you find the Carmo Archeological Museum in Carmo Convent, better known as Convento do Carmo. It is one of many historic sites built in the 14th century and an impressive church in 1755.
Why visit? The convent is now the home to an archeological museum, but the biggest attraction is the remains left after the deadliest earthquake. Enjoy the free audio tour or a guided one to learn about the city and its history.
Worthy Note: The museum opens daily but is closed on Sundays. Children under 14 can visit for free and check out the Carmo Convent light show in the evening and the beautiful views.

Why visit? If you want to find some of the best restaurants in Lisbon, you will encounter them here in one place. The food market has eight bars, 26 restaurants, and many shops. Think of local cuisine steaks, burgers, and more with live music.
16. Loco Crazy Meal
Where is it? Estrela/Lapa/Santos
What is it? Enjoy creative meals chef Alexandre Silva makes and taste food outside your comfort zone.
Why visit? Loco is one of the most creative spots for Portuguese food. Enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with delicious food, and be prepared to spend some money. While here, you can enjoy liqueurs and fermented juices.
17. Martinho da Arcada
Where is it? Baixa District – Praรงa do Comรฉrcio 3, 1100-148 Lisboa, Portugal
What is it? Martinho da Arcada is in the grandest square in Lisbon and opened its doors in 1782, selling ice and drinks.
Why visit? Martinho da Arcada is one of the oldest restaurants in Lisbon, and the owners believe in ghosts. The place is constantly booked, so visit the coffee house for a quick meal at reasonable prices.
18. Conserveira de Lisboa

Why visit? If you enjoy fish, the choice is endless in this charming place. The store has colorful cans from exclusive brands like Minor, Prata do Mar, and Tricana. You can also buy different gourmet jams and liqueurs.
19. Versailles
Where is it? Avenidas Novas
What is it? Visit one of the most gorgeous Lisbon bakeries, Versailles, with art nouveau mirrors and decorated ceilings.
Why visit? Enjoy afternoon tea or hot chocolate late at night while viewing the carved wooden display cabinets, chandeliers, and beautiful stained glass. One thing is sure: you will love their famous croquettes, custard tarts, eclairs, and everything in between. I love the desserts, and you can enjoy lunch or dinner here.
20. The Best Icecream at Santini
Where is it? Chiado
What is it? Sartini serves Italian ice cream, and they have more than 60 years of experience in this Lisbon area. These guys always grab the top spot for delicious ice cream.
Why visit? The ice cream parlor serves original ice cream and is a great place to take the kids. Here, you can enjoy ice cream and sorbets and have them delivered. The nut and fruit flavored ice cream is delicious, as well as the seasonal specials.
21. Zรฉ da Mouraria
Where is it? Martim Moniz – R. Joรฃo do Outeiro 24, 1100-292 Lisboa, Portugal
What is it? Enjoy the best-roasted cod at Martim Moniz
Why visit? There is a story behind Zรฉ da Mouraria, as there is no Zรฉ but a Virgilio from the Minho region. He had the most popular restaurants two decades ago.
Yet he had one where a Galician fellow with a grill named Zรฉ dos Grelhados once existed.
Still, they make the most delicious roast cod with thick slices and deboned. They add olive oil, roast potatoes, and chickpeas for added quality.
22. Nicolau Lisboa
Where are they? Baixa Pombalina – R. de Sรฃo Nicolau 17, 1100-547 Lisboa, Portugal
What are they?ย A few years back, Nicolau was a phenomenon, especially the dog sausage bow with a velvet suit that is the restaurant’s mascot.
Why visit? It is the most Instagrammable place with what arrives on their table. The decor is of a London cafeteria with LX Factory touches. The main attractions on the menu are the smoothies, tapiocas, and, not to forget, yogurt with granola. But you must try the pancakes served with strawberries and mascarpone, which are sweet.
23. Gambrinus
Where is it? Santa Maria Maior – R. das Portas de Santo Antรฃo 23, 1150-264 Lisboa, Portugal
What is it? The legendary restaurant opened its doors 80 years ago and was initially a German brewery. Now, it is remodeled, and the decor is fantastic.
Why visit? According to many, you must always enjoy a croquette drenched with house mustard and ask for the Gambrinus Tulipa.
It is an excellent beer. While waiting for the rye toast bread, never skip the toasted almonds. If you have a place, enjoy a Prego beef sandwich.
Or enjoy one with tartar sauce, then watch how your coffee is prepared and enjoy. It is a perfect place for solo travelers to enjoy lunch.
24. Taberna da Rua das Flores
Where is it? Chiado and Cais do Sodrรฉ
What is it? During the day, it is a tavern serving Portuguese dishes; by night, the standout feature is the chefs mixing influences.
Why visit? The menu changes daily as Chef Andrรฉ Magalhรฃes becomes creative with the food. Even if the menu confuses you, the friendly staff is there to help.
Hot Tip ๐ฅ: Once you arrive, remember to put your name at the door as there are no reservations in advance, and it will fill up fast. So, enjoy a drink while you wait in line.
25. The Best Lisbon Ground Burger
Where is it? Sรฃo Sebastiรฃo
What is it? Ground Burger is the best place to enjoy a burger in Lisbon. You can look forward to a Black Angus burger with meat carefully placed between homemade bread and fries.
Why visit? Did I mention it is the best burger spot in Lisbon? The slab is huge and 100% beef and super fresh on a brioche bun with delicious onion rings, and the french fries are seasoned with rosemary dipped in mustard.
Another highlight is the Titular Ground Burger; you even get a vegan option.

What is it? You can find the famous Portuguese pasteis de nata at different outlets, including Pastรฉis de Belรฉm, made according to a secret recipe.

What is it? Now that the tummy is full, it is time to shop in Lisbon at Feira da Ladra, a market held from morning to night.
Why visit? Visit the Feira de Ladra market from Tuesdays to Saturdays, as it is a gem that serves up some excellent souvenir shopping Lisbon bargains. Browse for 2nd handbooks and vintage clothing, and you will find everything else here. The best time to visit is in the morning to find deals.
28. LX Factory
Where is it? Alcรขntara – R. Rodrigues de Faria 103, 1300-501 Lisboa, Portugal
What is it? LX Factory is an industrial spot that has been transformed into cafes, art exhibitions, markets, parties, and concerts.
Why visit? If you love retail therapy, you will love LX Factory, and it will be worth the trip. LX Factory is a shopping haven with eclectic selections of spots to enjoy a drink, meal, or dance. You can even cut your hair or browse art and get a tattoo.

29. Embaixada
Where is it? Principe Real – Praรงa do Prรญncipe Real 26, 1250-184 Lisboa, Portugal
What is it? You will find the Embaixada concept store in Palacete Ribeiro da Cunha for more retail therapy in Lisbon with an Arab design.
Why visit? Lisbon has some great fashion boutiques that feature temporary exhibitions. The Steak House is an 18th-century mansion packed with foreign and Portuguese stores, all in the same place. It is an excellent spot for vegan burgers.

Why visit? Unlike your azulejo shops in Lisbon, the place stocks mass-produced Portuguese ceramic tiles. But many of them are from discontinued lines. So you can find some great bargains.
31. Monsanto Park
Where is it? Benfica/Monsanto
What is it? The public park is much bigger than Central Park in New York.
Why visit? Here, you can take the family for a picnic, ride a bike, run, or skate. There is a playground for the children and a kiosk where they can enjoy coffee. I recommend first visiting the Mata de Benfica at Alameda Keil do Amaral.
32. Oficio Tasco Atipico
Where is it? Chiado – R. Nova da Trindade 11k, 1200-301 Lisboa, Portugal
What is it? The tavern was a steakhouse but is now a traditional Portuguese Tasca.
Why visit? You can enjoy affordable traditional tascas and fine dining simultaneously. The stall is set up as a typical tavern and services quality Portuguese wines presented with small food plates to share.

Why visit? The space is decorated with a great interior, is a racy bookstore, and shows regular burlesque shows. Here, you can enjoy the music of the DJ sets, and they serve mean cocktails.
34. Casa Independente
Where is it? Largo do Intendente Pina Manique 45, 1100-285 Lisboa, Portugal
What is it? Casa Independente is the best nightlife spot in Lisbon, where you can enjoy the day or stay over for the night.
Why visit? Casta Independente is in a decaying mansion with a huge Tiger Room where you can listen to DJs. There are smaller rooms for a chat or work, and on the back patio is a cafe. You can enjoy fresh juices, teas, finger food, and cocktails at the bar.
35. Tejo Bar
Where is it: Alfama – 1100 451, Beco do Vigรกrio 1A, 1100-613 Lisboa, Portugal
What is it? The Tejo Bar is a bit under the radar. It is a small music venue with tables and shelves filled with board games and books.
Why visit? Here, people do not clap their hands to show appreciation but rub their hands ๐. You find many regulars helping themselves to drinks and dot down what they take. It is a great place for solo travelers visiting Lisbon. The place closes after 5 am.
36. Red Frog
Where is it? Avenida da Liberdade – Praรงa da Alegria 66b, 1250-004 Lisboa, Portugal
What is it? The Red Frog is the best for cocktails for the best bars and clubs. You also need to ring a bell to get access to the bar.
Why visit? When you head up the Rua do Salitre, look out for the red frog in front of the door and ring the bell. Then, descend the staircase to find a bar. You can find some interesting mixed cocktails here, and the list keeps changing.
37. Nightlife in Lisbon: Lux
Where is it? Sรฃo Vicente
What is it? For one of the best clubs in Lisbon, Lux offers you two floors to dance, one sweaty and one loungey. Then, you have the roof terrace that overlooks the river.
Why visit? While Lisbon has many clubs, nothing is like Lux Frรกgil. The decor is impressive, and the music is even better, made possible by the DJs. The furniture is hip with a friendly crowd. You can enjoy electro hip-hop and 80s music.
Most locals visit on Thursdays, while Saturdays are filled with people from out of town. At Lux, you find live bands and, on Sunday afternoons, the occasional events. The place has seen some big names in the international DJ scene.

38. Music Box Lisbon
Where is it? Cais do Sodrรฉ
What is it?ย Music Box is one of Lisbon’s most exhilarating venues to hear live electronic acts, singers and songwriters, rock bands, and, on Friday nights, DJ sets.
