Lisbon in June is surprisingly nice. I visited last June, and I feared it was super crowded, but I was happily surprised.

We had super nice weather and got to experience Rock in Rio and the city without too many crowds.

June is perfect if you’re visiting Lisbon for the beaches and nice weather, and just want to enjoy the outside.

8 Things to do in Lisbon in June

Lisbon is a city that loves to celebrate everything, even the smallest things, and it really shows in June with the many festivals.

1. Festas dos Santos Populares

Festas dos Santos Populares

All around Lisbon, from Avenida da Liberdade to Graca and Alfama, you can experience Santos Populares in the first weeks of June.

Each neighborhood celebrates Santos Populares differently, so it’s worth visiting multiple.

There are multiple festivals around the city, and they are all wrapped up on Avenida da Liberdade on the 12th and 13th of June when they celebrate Santos dos Populares.

The highlight of the month is the St Anthony Festival, Lisbon’s biggest celebration, with street parties, sardines, and the famous Marchas Populares parade on the night of June 12th.

I experienced it this year, and it was an awesome experience where you just dance, listen to music, drink beers, eat good food, and most importantly, enjoy.

It just shows how much the Portuguese people love to celebrate, and it’s definitely something I should do more of, and we all should.

2. Lisbon Book Fair (Feira do Livro de Lisboa)

Feira do Livro de Lisboa

The book fair happens right in the beautiful park Parque Eduardo VII, where you can experience hundreds of bookstations, author talks, and readings.

The event happens from late May to early June. Keep an eye on the website, as the location and dates might change.

Tip: Lisbon has a lot of great English Bookstores around the city.

3. Rock in Rio Lisboa

If you like music concerts, this is a must-try. It only happens every other year, and it’s such a blast.

I went there this year to experience Ed Sheeran, Calum Scott, and Lukas Graham(Who is from Denmark, like me).

It had such a positive vibe and was an amazing experience overall. My partner and I chose to buy the VIP tickets for Sunday, the 16th, and we both loved it.

Rock in Rio is over two weekends, and you have concerts on both Saturday and Sunday.

You can buy a weekend pass or single tickets. I can highly recommend the VIP tickets.

4. Cherry Festival

As the cherries slowly pop up in May, June is the perfect time to celebrate them by attending the Festa da Cereja in Alcongosta.

Here, you get to experience cherry-themed festivities, including tastings, live music, and traditional Portuguese dance.

You can also walk on the Rota da Cereja, exploring cherry orchards, and take in the vibrant energy of the festival.

5. Grande Arraial de Belém Festival

If you’re traveling to Lisbon with your kids, this festival is perfect for you. It’s a mix of amusements, small concerts, and other activities.

It’s free entry, and you can experience many great artists.

The Grande Arraial de Belém Festival is from 30 May until 15 June, the same time as Santos Populares.

6. Discover a New Coffee Spot

As the sun is out, June is the perfect time to discover your new go-to coffee spot in Lisbon.

My favorite coffee spot is any of the Fabrica Coffee Roaster cafés because their coffee is amazing.

But if you want a view, I can recommend any café in Cais do Sodre near the Tagus River or the cafés at the viewpoints around the city.

7. Visit a Rooftop Bar

Lisbon has stunning views all over the city, whether visiting one of the many viewpoints or eating at a rooftop restaurant.

I love to eat at Rossio Gastrobar for a quick lunch or if I just want something to drink. You get stunning views over Rossio Square and Baixa.

Another amazing rooftop restaurant is Memmo Alfama Rooftop, which has stunning views of Alfama.

8. Enjoy The Sunset

I like to watch the sunset in one of two ways, either via one of the many beautiful viewpoints or sailing on the Tagus River.

Lisbon officially has seven hills with viewpoints, but as you walk around the city, you’ll find many more.

An alternative way to enjoy the sunset is via boat on the Tagus River. You can book one of the many options and often get food, snacks, or tapas as part of the deal while you sail on the Tagus River with the sunset on the horizon.
